AASB 2026-4, scoped to your entity and your first period

Read from the real rules, not invented. Every answer points to the official paragraph behind it, so you can check any line yourself.

A free scope check and a 28 entry obligation register for the amendments that move superannuation and not-for-profit reporting onto AASB 18 and the revised AASB 107.

It amends seven Australian Accounting Standards. It binds Tier 1 general purpose reporters that are superannuation entities applying AASB 1056, not-for-profit entities, and governments applying AASB 1049, plus for-profit entities on the narrow AASB 1039 and AASB 1054 track. The main amendments commence on 31 December 2027, and the first annual periods they cover begin on or after 1 January 2028. The narrow for-profit track commences on 31 December 2026 and applies to periods beginning on or after 1 January 2027. The register is free to read. The kit is USD 799 one off, and the change watch is USD 49 a month.

01

The two dates people confuse

Commencement is a legal event. Application is a test on the first day of your annual period. A plan that carries one date carries the wrong one.

31 December 2027

Commencement

The instrument commences. For a not-for-profit entity or a superannuation entity applying AASB 1056 this is the legal start of the amendments, not the first financial year they touch.

1 January 2028

Application

The first annual periods covered begin on or after this date. A 30 June reporter is first affected in the year beginning 1 July 2028. Its comparative year also needs the same presentation.

The trap in one line: an entity with a 30 June year end does not apply the amendments to the year ending 30 June 2028. The first affected year ends 30 June 2029. The check computes this from your period start.

What actually changes

Six changes carry most of the work. Each one is a page in the register with the evidence an auditor will ask for.

AASB 18

Superannuation presentation

The AASB 1056 format replaces the AASB 18 category model. The category subtotals come out, and every relevant AASB 1056 line stays in.

Read paragraph Aus47.1
AASB 18

Not-for-profit reliefs

Public sector entities outside higher education can elect relief from the category model, the expense basis and the performance measure note.

Read paragraph Aus47.2
AASB 107

Cash flow classification

Superannuation and public sector entities may classify interest and dividends as operating cash flows, consistently from period to period.

Read paragraph Aus34D.1
AASB 107

Indirect method start

Where there is no operating subtotal, the reconciliation starts at the profit or loss total, with the specified adjustments.

Read paragraph Aus20.1
AASB 1054

Reconciliation destination

The direct method reconciliation goes to the operating subtotal, or to the profit or loss total for the entities that do not present one.

Read paragraph 16
AASB 1056

Member benefits statement

The statement of changes in member benefits becomes a primary statement, so comparatives, labels and aggregation come into scope.

Read paragraph 12A

How the free check answers

Six facts, one deterministic result. The engine reads the record, not a language model.

Pick the entity group

Superannuation, NFP private, NFP public sector, higher education provider, government or for-profit. The paragraph set differs for each.

Confirm the tier

The instrument is relevant to Tier 1 general purpose statements. A Tier 2 or special purpose reporter is told plainly that it is outside.

Enter the period start

The engine finds the first annual period beginning on or after the application date and returns its end date.

Answer the method and elections

The cash flow method and the policy elections decide the remaining paragraphs. Undecided elections return a conditional answer, never a default.

Questions people ask

What is AASB 2026-4?

It is an Australian Accounting Standard that amends seven standards so AASB 18 and the revised AASB 107 apply properly to superannuation entities and not-for-profit entities, and so the operating cash flow reconciliation starts from the right profit figure. Its Federal Register identifier is F2026L01162.

When does AASB 2026-4 start?

The main amendments commence on 31 December 2027 for not-for-profit entities and superannuation entities applying AASB 1056. The first annual periods they cover begin on or after 1 January 2028. The AASB 1039 and AASB 1054 amendments have a for-profit track that commences on 31 December 2026 and applies to periods beginning on or after 1 January 2027.

Who does AASB 2026-4 bind?

It reaches Tier 1 general purpose reporters in these groups: superannuation entities applying AASB 1056, not-for-profit private sector entities, not-for-profit public sector entities, public sector higher education providers and governments applying AASB 1049. For-profit entities are reached only by the narrow AASB 1039 and AASB 1054 track, which is a substantive change to the concise report exemption and the reconciliation destination.

Does the free check cost anything?

No. The check returns the paragraphs that bind your entity, the first annual period affected and the evidence to keep. The paid kit adds the full obligation register, evidence list and plan as PDF, CSV and XLSX. The change watch is a separate monthly subscription.

How much is the kit?

The kit is USD 799 one off. The change watch is USD 49 a month. Both are bought in one step through Stripe, with no account to create first.
